As I am going to Cornwall next week I remembered enjoying my first Rosamunde Pilcher book after finding it in a house we were renting, so this week I searched for books using the word Cornwall. Amongst the travel guides and books by Patricia Cornwell I found several books by Janie Bolitho about a sleuth called Rose Trevelyan. The books are newly issued but Jane Bolitho died, aged 52, in 2002. Book one in the Rose Trevelyan series is Snapped in Cornwall.
The book description is as follows:-
Rose Trevelyan had only met Gabrielle Milton once, but felt they might become good friends. She was delighted, therefore, to receive an invitation to the Milton’s party where the wine flowed freely and a good time was being had by all – that is, until Gabrielle’s crumpled, lifeless body was found underneath a balcony.
There are ten 5 star and five 4 star reviews, all seeming to enjoy the mystery and touch of romance and this quote makes it sound ideal holiday reading,
The beauty of Cornwall and the capricious nature of its weather are wonderfully evoked and the characters are people you would expect to meet in any small town.
So for a bargain 99p for the kindle I am downloading it now!

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,
4) Read the book Bio/ Description for this book, and any other details.
5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

I like the sound of a mystery set in Cornwall and the short book description appeals to me more than the book cover which seems a little cold and bleak. I think I would need a little more persuading to buy this book, the four lines don’t “sell” the book overly or have me “hooked”. I can see the appeal if you are going to Cornwall for a holiday and want to immerse yourself in a little Cornish life.

I actually preferred the titles & covers of later books in the series but i thought I should start with the first one. Reading a kindle makes the cover less relevant, rather like comparing a radio programme with TV.

I absolutely agree with Rosie, the blurb makes the book sound boring, like one of those library books I might get out and end up giving back only half read. Sounds a little bit too twee and cosy mystery for me, though the Cornwall aspect appeals. Pass!

I agree with Rosie; crumpled, lifeless bodies under the balcony need a more intriguing book cover. It would be a pass from me but I can understand how it would appeal to a fan of crime novels. 🙂

I agree with comments about the cover but it would be buy for me. I love Cornwall and have read several books set there. Look forward to your thoughts, Liz.

If I’m honest it’s the lovely Cornish names Trevelyan and Bolitho which appeal most.

I’m not keen on the cover but love all things Cornish so may well like this and at that price it’d probably be a BUY – I look forward see what you think to it Liz 🙂
